Phil's Chocolate Chip Cookies

"magical!" - my sister

photo needed

Recipe

1-1/4 cups flour 1 tsp. baking soda 1/2 tsp. salt 1 stick of butter, room temperature 1/2 cup packed brown sugar 6 Tbl. sugar 1 large egg 1 tsp. vanilla 4 cups semisweet chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper. Sift flour, baking soda and salt into medium bowl and set aside. In large bowl, using an electric mixer on medium speed, beat the butter and sugars until well combined. Add the egg and vanilla extract and mix until blended, about 1 minute. Reduce the speed to low and add the flour mixture, mixing just until it is incorporated. Add the chocolate chips and mix just until evenly distributed. Use a tablespoon to drop heaping spoonfuls of dough onto the baking sheets, 3 inches apart. Bake 12-13 minutes, until edges are lightly browned and centers are golden. Cool on the baking sheets for 10 minutes; the cookies will flatten as they cool. Transfer to wire rack to cool completely. Enjoy!

My Notes

These cookies have just enough cookie to hold the chocolate together! You can also add fewer chocolate chips for more traditional-style chocolate chip cookies. I often melt the butter in the microwave so it's easy to work with!

Story

My dad got this recipe from his coworker (Phil), whose wife adapted a chocolate chip cookie recipe she found. This recipe has been a favorite in my family ever since!
